Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

May I get a quote prior to my arrival?

Yes. To provide you with a provisional treatment plan and a quote, we need information of:

  • Information about  your dental need
  • an X-ray or photos of your teeth (if possible)

Any treatment plan/ quote provided in advance of a physical examination may be subject to change once the full diagnosis has been established.

How long does a dental trip usually last?

The length of your treatment depends on what needs to be done, but as a general guide:

  • Prosthetic treatments (crowns, bridges, veneers):

Usually only one visit required: 4-10 days, depending on the volume of work.

  • Implants:

Usually require 2 visits, separated by a 4-6 month recovery time.
1st visit: 1-3 days
2nd visit: 4-5 days.

  • Crown:
Usually only one visit required: 4-5 days.
  • Veneer:
Usually only one visit required: 4-5 days.
Why is dental treatment cheaper in Hungary than in the UK or IRE?

Life in Hungary is significantly cheaper than in the UK, taking into account both salaries and cost of living.

When can my treatment start?

Whenever you like!  Appointments are arranged to suit your schedule, so you can begin treatment at a time and date that’s convenient to you.  After your initial consultation, you’ll just need to confirm you’re happy with the treatment plan, and then it’s up to you whether you want to start treatment immediately or come back at a later date.

Are the dentists in the clinic careful and gentle?

Absolutely, yes. We understand that dental treatment can be daunting, especially when it’s in a foreign country. We make great efforts to work only with the most patient-focused, empathetic and caring dentists. The satisfaction and well- being of our patients is our number one priority.

Will the dentists you recommend speak English?

Yes. Like most Hungarian dentists, our dentists have benefited from overseas experience and training, so are fluent in a number of languages. Throughout the process, you’ll also have the support of our English-speaking patient care team.

How experienced are the dentists you recommend?

All Hungarian dentists are required by law to undergo continuous training.  This ensures that all dentists are up-to-date with the most modern and effective procedures.  In terms of experience, our dental team has been dealing with high volumes of local and foreign patients, with every conceivable dental need, for decades. As an example, our Implantologist has placed over 60,000 implants over a 30 year career.

Are Hungarian dental clinics similarly equipped to dental offices in the UK?

Hungarian dental standards are on a par with those across Western Europe.  In some cases, they’re even better.  Our clinics and lab are equipped with the most advanced, state- of- the art technology (including Amman Girbach, Datron CAD/CAM) and materials (zirconium, E-max press ceramic, and Nobel Procera).  This allows us to offer treatments and solutions with unparalleled aesthetics and longevity in the fastest time possible.

What do I need to bring to the Hungarian dentist?

Very little!  If you have any dental x-rays or CT scans, it would be helpful if you could to send these to us in advance of your appointment (if for no other reason than to save you having more). But don’t worry if you don’t, we can take all the necessary images and get all the information we need during the consultation.

Finances

How do I pay for the treatment?

You may pay:

  • in cash
  • by credit card
  • by online transfer

If your treatment involves multiple visits, you can spread the cost by paying after each appointment only for the treatment received during that particular visit.

Implant

Are dental implants painful?

In the hands of our highly trained and experienced Implantologists, dental implant surgery is a relatively straight forward procedure with minimal discomfort or pain (so minimal, in fact, that many patients have described the surgery as less painful than a tooth extraction). The surgery is performed quickly and safely under local anaesthetic.  After surgery, you may be prescribed antibiotics and pain killers to ensure your ongoing comfort.

In case of several missing teeth, is a dental implant required for each tooth?

Not necessarily. The number of implants is determined by several circumstances (for example, the neighboring teeth, condition of the gums, aesthetics, bite). In general, we have to keep slightly more space between implants than between natural teeth. This means that while three adjacent molar teeth may be replaced by three implants, three front teeth may be replaced by only two implants. Two implants can safely hold a 3-unit bridge, thus replacing three missing teeth.

I’m not interested in dentures. Is there any alternative?

Implant is the option you are looking for.

How can you ensure the success of an implant?

We only use the highest quality implants and the most advanced technical facilities. Compromising on quality is never an option. In addition, a well-planned treatment with a high standard of professional knowledge and experience will ensure the success of your treatment.

Travel

Why should I go to Budapest to see the dentist instead of having a treatment in my own country?

Budapest is the dental capital of Europe, attracting 65,000 dental patients each year. The main draw is the prices: Western patients can save up to 70% by having treatment in Hungary rather than at home.

Hungary has also earned a reputation in the past few decades for the exceptionally high quality of its dentistry.

Dental professionals in Hungary are obliged to regularly attend dental courses to refresh their knowledge, therefore the quality of dental procedures are extremely high, even compared to international standards.

Consultation

What happens at the free dental consultation?

The exact aim of the consultation is to carry out a personalized treatment plan. First, we make a diagnosis of the patient’s problems (palate, teeth, mucosa examination), then, the doctor will decide on further necessary diagnoses (X-ray or CT) and on these grounds the doctor will make suggestions on the treatment. If you agree to the plan, your dental care can start immediately
