Veneers are the art of dentistry. Pure ceramic veneer is a slight cover, a kind of small “sticker” which is used to recover injured, broken or discolored teeth or helps to give a nice look in case of congested teeth. Veneers allow you to correct multiple issues in just a single treatment. The transparency and customised shape ensures that it is unlikely to be noticed amongst your own natural teeth.
Veneers have been a quick and easy solution for decades. They may also be an alternative to orthodontic treatment which may take years. Veneers are strong, durable and make you have a smile of Hollywood celebrities.
Do you like what you see?
What are Veneers?
A veneer is a custom fabricated, wafer- thin shell of porcelain that can be placed over a tooth to mask chips, cracks, stains and gaps. Veneers are designed to recreate the natural look of teeth, and are ideal for those looking to vastly improve the appearance of their smile without the time- consuming hassle of orthodontistry.
Are Veneers Suitable for Me?
You are a good candidate for veneers if:
What’s the process for fitting veneers?
The process for fitting veneers can be broken down into 3 steps.
Step 1 – the No Obligation, Free of Charge Consultation
During the initial consultation, your dentist will examine your teeth to ensure veneers are suitable for you. They may also take x-rays and impressions of your mouth and teeth. They will then discuss your personalized treatment plan with you to ensure you are comfortable and happy with the process. This is the ideal opportunity for you to discuss and agree upon the most suitable and preferred choice of veneer.
Step 2 - Preparing the tooth
After confirming your suitability for veneers and discussing your treatment goals with you, your dentist will begin to prepare the tooth. This involves removing as little as 0.33mm of enamel from the surface of the tooth to make space for the veneer. If you prefer, your dentist can use a local anesthetic to numb the area before treatment starts. Once trimming is complete, your dentist will take an impression of the tooth. This is then sent to our in-house dental lab for the construction of the veneer to begin.
Step 3 – Bonding
Once the veneer has been made, your dentist will test it against your tooth to check if any adjustments are needed. Once both you and your dentist are happy with the fit and colour, your tooth will be cleaned, polished and etched to allow a strong bond to be made between the tooth and veneer. Next, a special kind of adhesive material is applied to the veneer and the veneer is attached to the tooth. Once in place, your dentist will activate the chemicals in the cement using a special type of light beam. This helps the cement harden immediately. After any excess cement is removed, your dentist will evaluate the fit again to check for any final adjustments.
What type of Veneer do you recommend?
Veneers made using the Pressed Ceramic method (in which the veneer is molded from a single unit under heat and extreme pressure) offer unrivalled strength, versatility and predictability.
E.max veneers represent one of the most reliable and high quality options on the market. Made from a single block of porcelain lithium disilicate method (a material renowned for its toughness and stability) using the pressed ceramic method, E.max veneers combine durability with an unparalleled aesthetic. For patients looking for a natural result, the E.max veneer offers one of the best solutions.
Your dentist will talk you through the best and most suitable option for you during your initial consultation.
Do you offer Lumineers?
Lumineers are a type of non-prep veneer that require little or no tooth preparation (i.e. enamel removal) before fitting. While this may seem attractive to those who wish to conserve as much of their natural tooth as possible, the disadvantages of Lumineers include a bulky, over contoured appearance, and irritated or inflamed gum tissue. For this reason, we do not recommend Lumineers or other brands of non-prep veneers.
Do Dental Veneers Require Special Care?
Within reason, you should be able to enjoy any type of food with veneers. However, it’s important to remember that porcelain is a glass, and like glass, can break if excessive force is applied, or if a strong twisting movement is made (for example, if you use your teeth to open a bottle). If you suffer from bruxism (night tooth grinding), it’s advisable to wear a night guard.
How Long Do Dental Veneers Last?
With proper care and regular checkups, veneers are expected to last up to 30 years.
